Smudge stick picture appearance in flash

See this step by step tutorial and learn how to create smudge stick picture appearance in flash using the Photoshop a little. To create this tutorial, you don't have to use Action Script. You will also learn:

1. How to apply Smudge stick filter in photoshop on picture,
2. How to import an image in Flash,
3. How to convert a bitmap image into a Movie Clip Symbol,
4. How to apply alpha effect on image and more.



Step 1

Find any image on internet or somewhere and save it in some folder as main image.



Step 2


After that, open that image in Photoshop. Then, choose Filtre > Artistic > Smudge stick, and the smudge stick panel will be appear. Then, choose the following options:



Now, you'll need to get something like this:



Step 3

Save that picture on the same folder in which we have saved the first (main image) and name it smudge image.

Step 4

Start Flash. Select Modify > Document (shortcut key: Ctrl+J ) and set your Flash movie's frame rate to 30.

Step 5

Choose File > Import > Import to Library. In the file explorer window that appears, find a two images ( main image and smudge image). Then, press and hold down Shift key and select them. After that, click Open. If you now open your Library (Ctrl+L), you will see them. See the picture below.



Step 6

Take the Selection Tool (V) and move the smudge image from the flash library on the stage usign the "drag and drop" technique.

Step 7

While the image is still selected, press F8 key (Convert to Symbol) to convert this image into a Movie Clip Symbol. See the picture below.



Step 8

Double click on layer 1 and rename its name into a smudge image.

Step 9

Click on frame 25, 50 and 90 and press F6 key. Go back on the first frame, take the Selection Tool (V) and click once on the image to select it. After that, go to the Properties Panel (Ctrl+F3) below the stage. On the right, you will see the Color menu. Select Advanced in it, click on Settings button and choose the following options:

Right-click anywhere on the gray area between the frame 1 and 25 on the timeline and choose Create Motion Tween from the menu that appears. See the picture below.



Step 11

Click on frame 90, take again the Selection Tool (V), click once on the picture to select it and go again to the Properties Panel below the stage. On the right, you will see the Color menu. Select Alpha in it and put it down to 0%.



Step 12

Right-click anywhere on the gray area between the frame 50 and 90 on the timeline and choose Create Motion Tween from the menu that appears.

Step 13

Clcik on frame 150 and after that on frame 175 and press F6 key.

Step 14

While you're still on frame 175, take the Selection Tool (V), click once on the picture to select it and go to the Properties Panel again. On the right, you will see the Color menu. Select Alpha in it and put it down to 100%.



Step 15

Right-click anywhere on the gray area between the frame 150 and 170 on the timeline and choose Create Motion Tween from the menu that appears.



Step 16

Click on frame 190 and press F6 key. After that, while you're still on frame 190, repeat step 8.

Step 17

Create a new layer, name it main image and place it below the smudge image layer. See the picture below.



Step 18

Click on frame 50 of layer main image and press F6 key.

Step 19

After that, take the Selection Tool (V), open the Library Panel (Shortcut key: Ctrl+L) and move the second (main picture) from the flash library panel on the stage.

Step 20

Click on frame 175 and press F5 key.
