Text shadow effect

Read this tutorial and see how to create text shadow effect in flash with no Action Script. This is so cool effect and you can use it wherever you like.

Example:



Step 1

Open Flash, press Ctrl+J (Document Properties), set Width to 300px and Height to 100px. Set frame rate  to 24fps and press ok.





Step 2


Take Text Tool (A), and in Properties Pannel (Ctrl+F3) choose font, color, size and type some text on stage. For this example we'll type Toxiclab.



Step 3

Click once on layer 1 to select him, press Ctrl+C (Copy), lock layer 1, insert new layer above layer 1, name it Shadow and press Ctrl+Shift+V (Paste in place)



Step 4

Click once on layer "Shadow" and by arrow keys on your keyboard or by mouse take down that copied text (½Toxiclab½) .Look at the picture below.



While you are dropping the text, hold down Shift key to make it simmetrical.

Step 5

Select that moved text, Click on Free Transform Tool (Q) and create this:(Look at the picture below)



Step 6

Lock Shadow layer, unlock layer 1, select text ( ½Toxiclab½ ) and press F8 (Convert to symbol). In Convert to symbol window choose Movie Clip, name it whatever you like and ok.



Step 7

Double click on new made Movie Clip or right click and choose Edit in Place. While text is still selected press Ctrl+B (Break Apart).



Click after that on Modify - Timeline - Distribute to Layers (Ctrl+Shift+D). Than, you get this:



Select layer 1 and delete it becouse it is useless from now on.

Step 8

Select first letter in text, for this example is letter T,and press F8 (Concert to Symbol). In Convert to Symbol window under Behavior (Type - Flash8) choose Graphic, name it whatever you like and ok.



Do that now, for all of the other letters. - convert them in Graphic symbol as we have done in step 8.

Step 9

Click on the fifth frame of layer T ( first letter in text ) and press F6 (changing point). Click after that on the tenht frame and press again F6. Go back on fifth frame - select letter T and by arrows on your keyboard take up it little. Look at the picture below.



Step 10

Click once on layer T to select it, open Properties Pannel (Ctrl+F3) and under Tween choose Motion.





Step 11

Repeat steps 9 and 10 for every next letter, but every next letter must start 3 frames later from the last letter.Letter "O" starts of the third frame, "X" of the sixth.... Look at the picture.



If you now launch animation (Ctrl+Enter), you'll se this:



Step 12

Go back on the main scene ( Scene 1), lock layer 1, unlock layer Shadow, select it, press F8 (Convert to symbol), in Convert to Symbol window under Behavior (Type - Flash8) choose Movie Clip, name it whatever you like and ok.





Step 13

Select that new made Movie Clip, open Properties Pannel (Ctrl+F3), under color choose Alpha and set it to 7%



Then you get this:



Step 14

Double click on new made Movie Clip (Shadow), press Ctrl+B (Break apart), after that press Ctrl+Shift+D (Distribute to layers).Select layer 1, and delete it becouse it is useless from now on. Click on the fifth frame of layer T and press F6. After that, click on the tenth frame and again press F6. Go back on frame 5 and move down a little letter T. Look at the picture.



Step 15

Select layer T (layer of first letter in text ) open Properties Pannel and under Tween choose Motion.




Repeat steps 13 and 14 for all letter. Every next letter must start 3 frames later from the last letter,like we have done it for the previous movie clip.



we're done, go back on main scene (Scene1) and launch animation.
